My First Month Using Shiftlyx: A Nurse's Honest Review

From sceptical download to daily habit. One nurse shares what changed after 30 days.

Day 1: "Another App?"

I have a phone full of health apps I downloaded and forgot. When a colleague told me about Shiftlyx, I was sceptical. Another app promising to fix my sleep? I work nights in A&E. Nothing fixes that.

But the fatigue score caught my attention. Number out of 100. Specific. Measurable. I am an A&E nurse. Numbers mean something.

I entered my shifts for the current week. It took about three minutes. The app asked for shift times, type, and my commute. I added my commute mostly to prove it did not matter.

Day 3: First Shock

My Fatigue Score was 72. Red. I had been working four nights in a row after a day shift with a 10-hour turnaround. The app broke down the four dimensions and it became obvious: high night clustering, short recovery, moderate circadian disruption.

I had not felt particularly tired. That was the scary part. The app showed me data that contradicted how I felt. I trusted the data.

Week 2: The Florence Moment

I was making tea in the staff room and remembered I could use the voice planner. I held the button and said: "Florence, what does my fatigue look like next week?"

"Your fatigue score for next week is projected at 45. That is amber. Your circadian disruption dimension is elevated because you switch from nights to days on Thursday. Would you like to see alternative patterns?"

I switched to the Shift Stacked strategy it suggested. Same hours. More days off.

Week 4: The Check-In

After 30 days, my average Fatigue Score dropped from 58 to 34. I was not working fewer hours. I was working them in better patterns. I had stopped stacking nights against days. I was clustering my shifts. I was starting to actually understand my own schedule.

The app did not fix my shift work. Nothing does that. But it gave me something I had never had: visibility into my own fatigue. That changed how I plan. Changed how I recover. Changed how I think about exhaustion.

I still feel tired. But now I know why. And I know what to do about it.
