What Is a Good Fatigue Score? Understanding Your Number
Green doesn't always mean safe, and red doesn't always mean danger. Here is how to interpret your fatigue score.
The Scale
Shiftlyx scores fatigue from 0-100 across four dimensions. The overall score is a weighted combination:
What Each Zone Actually Means
**Green (0-30):** Your current pattern includes adequate recovery windows between shifts. You are unlikely to be accumulating significant fatigue debt. This does not mean you never feel tired. It means your schedule is not systematically preventing recovery.
**Amber (30-60):** One or more dimensions of your fatigue are trending in the wrong direction. You might have a cluster of night shifts compressing your recovery window, or a stretch of consecutive days exceeding five. This zone is a warning, not a crisis. Adjustments to your next rota can bring the score back down.
**Red (60-100):** Your pattern is generating fatigue faster than recovery can offset it. If you are in this zone, you are likely feeling the effects: poor sleep quality, reduced concentration, irritability, and low energy. This is not sustainable long term.
The Misleading Green
A green score does not guarantee you are well rested. If you have been on leave for a week, your score will be low regardless of how you spent that time. Similarly, a green score with a high circadian disruption component might mask a pattern that will cause problems next month.

How to Improve Your Score
Your Fatigue Score comes with a Plan Style label that tells you which of five planning strategies your current rota most resembles. Switch strategies and your score shifts accordingly. The Recovery Coach card in your dashboard gives specific recommendations based on your highest-scoring dimension.
The power of the score is not the number. It is understanding which of the four dimensions is driving it and what you can do about it.
